Congratulations to freshman Brielle Polizzano for her winning entry in our Poetry Month contest! We had enough quality poems that our judges also awarded two honorable mentions: one to freshman Ash Das, and another to the 8th grade pair of Christina Aziz and Grace Nivera. Thanks to all who participated, and to Mrs. Patient and Dr. Holden, for being our judges.

“Poetry lifts the veil from the hidden beauty of the world, and makes familiar objects be as if they were not familiar.” — Percy Bysshe Shelley
April is Poetry Month, and we are celebrating in the library with a contest! To enter, students create a poem - either as a book spine poem, or using our magnetic poetry on the white board. Entries will be judged by English faculty at the end of the month, and the winner gets a $25 Amazon gift card. Stop by and give it a try! Here are a couple of samples: On Thursday, March 7th 25 middle school blind daters enjoyed a pizza party in the library, a reward for reading and reviewing their blind dates. Lots of pizza, munchies, and cookies were gobbled up! We also had a record 32 US students participate in blind date this year, with Jack Griffiths being the lucky winner of the gift card drawing for dinner and a movie. We hope you all enjoyed your blind dates!
On Valentine's Day in the library, about 150 students chose blind dates! Will it be love at first sight, or only a one night stand? We'll find out when they post reviews of their dates - stay tuned!
Last Friday Mrs. Swi transformed the library into a Winter Reading Land! Her classes spent the day reading and sharing favorite stories from their childhood, and choosing books for pleasure reading over the holiday break. Mrs. Swi and Mrs. Slowinski made some recommendations, and we even had some upper school students visit and talk about their favorite books.
Music, hot chocolate, snacks, and comfy pillows completed the atmosphere! Happy reading to all!! Mango, our library mascot, is pretty shy and likes to hang out inside her little cave most of the time. But every now and then she comes out to say hello. Here she is, scoping out her friends in the library.
Mrs. Swi's 7th graders made movie trailers for their summer reading titles, and came to the library on Friday to show them on the big screen. Their creativity and video skills were impressive - there was even one video that was shot in mid-air, from a drone!
We have a new mascot in the library, courtesy of Mr. Payne's Aquariums and Terrariums club. She is a leopard gecko, native to the dry and rocky terrain of Pakistan, India, and Afghanistan. We hope she will be very happy in the library!
But - she needs a name! If you have any suggestions, especially if they have some connection to a book (title, author, character?), stop in the library or add a comment to this post. On Friday April 27th during 8th period, the Paulus Library hosted our first ever Pun-Off!! Organized by junior Cindy Zhang, we invited students and staff to come trade punny quips. There was lots of food, much groaning laughter, and all punners received an EGGcellence in punning award. Many TANKS to all who came and participated!
