In spite of social distancing protocols and remote learning, we were still able to connect some students with Blind Dates this year! Our middle schoolers got gift cards instead of a pizza party, but at least they made some new book friends. Thanks to all who participated!

Use this search box to explore the new updated version of Destiny! The new interface is more attractive and user-friendly, and there are many new features, including: - citations available for each book, right in the catalog, in several formats - "you may also like" book suggestions - Topics section that sorts fiction by genre We now also have the ability to LOG IN to Destiny, using our Ranney gmail credentials. Logging in allows users to see what books they have checked out, (and renew them if needed!), place holds, and mark books as favorites. Watch this short video for a quick introduction: The library will be operating differently this year, as we all adapt to being on campus during the pandemic. But never fear, Mrs. Slowinski will be here to help with research and provide you with the books and information you need! Here are a few things you need to know.
First,.the library will be used as a classroom space this year, which means that there will be limited physical access for students in need of library help or materials. Mrs. Slowinski will be available by email or Google Meet to any student in need of assistance. For class research projects, the library will be mobile and coming to a classroom near you. For example, students can email the librarian with a book request, and Mrs. Slowinski will either deliver the book to the student, or let the student know when they can come and pick it up. Students can also request a Google Meet to discuss what they need and to get one-on-one instruction. Don't hesitate to reach out, and we will find a way to get you the help you need! We will also establish some times for on-line office hours as the schedule becomes clearer. .Never fear, the library is still open while we are all social distancing and learning on-line. Help is always available, either by using the contact form on the home page of the website, or by emailing Mrs. Slowinski directly ([email protected]).
Students have been busily decorating "dates", and our event kicks off tomorrow. Come by the library and pick your date - maybe you will find true love!
Today is National Puzzle Day, and I challenged our students to complete a 1,000 piece jigsaw puzzle in one day. Students came to the library during their free time and pitched in to get it done - and they finished by the end of 7th period, with plenty of time to spare. Great job!
Upper School students lounging in front of the yule log, part of student council's de-stress week. Midterms are coming up, but no one was worrying about them!
Mrs. Swiatocha and her 7th grade Humanities class visited Lexington and Concord, as well as Paul Revere's house and the route of his ride - all from the comfort of the media center!
Exciting things have been happening in the library over the summer!. We have a new sound system in the library, a new touch-screen TV in the media center, and - last but not least - new virtual reality equipment that is available for teachers to use with their classes. We can't wait to take our first class on a Google Expedition! There are over 900 Expeditions available across a variety of disciplines. Mrs. Greenberg is planning on taking her AP Art History class to visit some ancient and faraway sites, Mr. Serota is planning some trips inside the body for his Bio class, and Mrs. Swiatocha will take her 7th graders to some battlefields and historic sites relating to American history. Stay tuned for reports on where our travelers go!
