Start with a broad search in the library website search box. Look for the Research Starter article that will come up on the top of your search results list; it will give you good general background information about your explorer.
Determine where and when your explorer lived and was active - these will be keys to finding more information in other resources.

Databases:
Search these databases for information about your explorer. Search by their name, of course, but also use search terms like "European exploration", or "Phoenecian trade and exploration", for example. The history databases will have differing content, so check more than one.

Browse through maps in the appropriate time/place for your explorer (ie Vikings
will be in Medieval Europe, Phoenicians will be in Ancient Greece).
AND/OR search by person, then limit by images / maps
