Mrs. Swi's classes are in the library today, watching their book trailers on the big screen! Each student used WeVideo to create a movie trailer about the book they chose for summer reading, and today is the big premiere. And, what movie would be complete without some popcorn??
It's Poetry Month, and our annual poetry contest is back IN PERSON! Students can enter by creating either a magnetic poem or a blackout poem in the library. See the Poetry Contest page on the website for more information on how to enter. At the end of the month faculty judges will determine winners from both the US and the MS, and prizes will be forthcoming. I can't wait to see what you will all create - every year I am impressed and amazed by our students' talents!
With near-record participation this year, the Blind Date with a Book program was a big success! Congratulations to our prize winners - enjoy spending your gift cards!
Intrepid and determined student puzzlers got this whole 1,000 piece puzzle constructed in one day! There was a brief moment of panic when the final piece was missing - but Mr. Goodson found it on the floor, face down and camouflaged. Whew!! Happy Presidents Day!
Our library tradition, Blind Date with a Book, was in full swing yesterday! Students came in throughout the day to choose their blind dates, and any that read their date and post a review in the library catalog will be entered to win a gift card prize (some will also be eligible for extra credit). Reviews are due by March 4th, so get reading!! We celebrated National Puzzle Day in the library by doing two different jigsaw puzzles. One was finished in a day, and the other (with a botanical design) took 3 days worth of hard effort to finally conquer. Congrats and thanks to all the MS and US students who worked so hard to see them through! We continued our December tradition of 7th grade winter reading day in the library. Mrs. Swi's students were in the library all day, sharing their favorite picture books from childhood, having hot cocoa and cookies, and picking out books to read over winter break. The virtual fireplace and some holiday music added to the atmosphere! We had numerous special visitors - upper school students, teachers, and administrators who all stopped by to share their book recommendations. Happy winter reading!
Not to worry! The books haven't gone anywhere. These shelves have been emptied to get ready for some changes in the library this summer. We will be shortening the non-fiction stacks a bit to make room for additional study tables, which will be arriving in August as part of a set of NEW furniture!
The library furniture was original to the building, and very ready for an update. Our new furniture will allow us to easily move and rearrange it, to accommodate the various events that happen in the library during a typical school year. We very much hope that next year will be closer to that typical school year, with teachers in their classrooms again and students working together in the library. When you come in the library in September the shelves will be full of books again, and you can try out our new chairs and tables. Can't wait! Once again we will sponsor a poetry contest in the library for Poetry Month!
This year we will also be honoring Earth Day, by asking for poetry with an ecology or nature theme. Using the online Magnetic Poetry site, students can create and submit their masterpieces, to be judged by Dr. Holden and Mrs. Patient at the end of the month. There will be prizes for both the US and MS winners. |
